DYMO 30252 vs 30334 vs 30256: Size Comparison

Quick answer: Choose 30252 for narrow address blocks, 30334 for compact item information and 30256 for a taller address or handling layout. Check exact printer fit and test real content before choosing a roll.

Choose these formats by the space your information needs. A long address, a compact SKU and a large handling note are different layout problems, even when all three print in black on a white roll label.

Compare the physical dimensions

Format Nominal size Approximate metric size Starting use
30252 1 1/8 × 3 1/2 inches 28.6 × 88.9 mm Recipient addresses and narrow office identifiers
30334 2 1/4 × 1 1/4 inches 57.2 × 31.8 mm Compact stock, shelf and product information
30256 2 5/16 × 4 inches 58.7 × 101.6 mm Larger address blocks and internal shipping notes

DYMO documents the 30252 and 30256 dimensions in its format reference and the 30334 dimensions on its product page. Dimensions describe the cut label. They do not promise that every part of its surface is printable. The order in which dimensions appear on a supplier listing can differ. Compare the two measurements together and inspect the diagram or template. A landscape layout on screen can make the same physical label look quite different.

Use 30252 for narrow, readable information

A standard address is a natural fit for 30252. It can also hold a department name, a short equipment identifier or a routing reference. Keep the content focused. Adding a logo, telephone number, slogan and return address to the same narrow label usually makes the essential text harder to read. Here is a copyable fictional office-routing layout:

ACCOUNTS PAYABLE
DOCUMENT REVIEW
ROUTE: FIN-02

For mailing, replace the routing content with the actual recipient address. Test the longest organization name and street line in your list, not just the easiest record.

Use 30334 for a compact information hierarchy

30334 suits an item name followed by a short SKU, price or location. A useful stock-bin layout might be: M6 HEX NUTS SKU: HN-M6-ZN BIN: C-14

If a barcode is required, reserve its space before adding decorative elements. A barcode that technically fits inside the label can still be unsuitable for the scanner and workflow. Check the actual printed output using the equipment that employees will use.

Use 30256 when the address block needs more room

30256 gives a taller working area than 30252. That can help with a department line, reference number or longer recipient block. It is not a 4 × 6-inch shipping label. Do not assume a carrier document designed for that larger format can be reduced safely onto 30256.

For an internal package, you might separate a recipient block from a short instruction such as “Receiving: dock desk.” For a carrier shipment, use the carrier's supported label format and verify printer compatibility before purchasing media.

Check fit with a real content sample

Make a paper mockup at actual size. Place it on the envelope, bin or package. Then build the same layout in the correct DYMO template and print a sample. Check readability at the normal viewing distance, adhesion on the actual surface and whether anyone needs to scan it. If essential text becomes too small, move to a larger suitable format or remove optional content.

Do not solve a crowded layout by printing everything at the smallest available font. When comparing rolls, confirm the exact dimensions, printer generation, adhesive description and labels per roll together. A matching format number is only one part of a complete specification.
